It's that time of the year where schools around the country are holding their school fetes in attempt to prise as much money as possible from parents and grannies to bolster their paltry budgets.
Thankfully it was a glorious day on Saturday for our fete and the crowds turned out in force for burgers and ice creams and a go on the bouncy castle.
I was hoping for a bric-a-brac stall or two but was to be disappointed. There was a brilliant second-hand book stall which I'd have liked to have spent ages looking through. Ruby however had other ideas, dragging me forcible to the face-painting and tin can alley, announcing loudly "urgh - books!!". Way to go Ruby with impressing your new Year One teacher...
The Old Man was quite taken with the plate smash stall, and I a little bit of me died inside every time something got blasted to smithereens. It was all I could do to hold myself back from rescuing random chintzy cups and odd saucers, although to be fair, these were leftovers from the spring jumble so they'd had their chance. The stand proved a bit hit with the dads, and for 50p they could hurl 3 balls with all their might at an array of crappy china - I was quite alarmed at the ferocity some of them displayed!
I tried my luck at the bottle tombola - having donated a cheeky bottle of red, I was hoping for something nice back in return. Trust me to manage to pull the tickets for probably the only two non-alcoholic bottles on the stand. Ame and Radox cocktail anyone?
Have you had your school fete yet? Does yours have any bric-a-brac, or have you got any good fete fundraising ideas

Looks like you had a great time
ReplyDeleteThanks Jen, it was a lovely family day and I think they raised lots of money.
DeleteWe have a bottle stall at our school fete...never won a thing, and it makes easily a couple of '000 every yr. that not just me, I promise ;)
ReplyDeleteAww, guess I'm just lucky!
DeleteSounds like a fun event! Wish we had something like that where I grew up (though with the bric-a-brac of course) :)
ReplyDeleteYou're right, I don't remember school fetes as a kid!
DeleteI think I'd be cringing right along with you at the smashing of teacups!
ReplyDeleteIt was quite hard to watch!
DeleteLooks like a fun day!
ReplyDeleteIt was! Thanks x
DeleteI remember the plate smashing stall at school fetes when I was a child. I shudder to think what treasures were smashed to smithereens back then!
ReplyDeleteArrgghh I dread to think!
DeleteIt's a shame you didn't get a chance to have a good look at the book stall! Our school never had a summer fete...
ReplyDeleteI know, I bet there were some great books there and I was so embarrassed she said that - she loves books! But not as much as face-painting clearly.
DeleteLiking the idea of a bottle stall. I always used to like the cake stalls. As an adult I used to love going to the local country schools lamb & calf day/school fair...it basically signalled the beginning of th BBQ/Xmas party season.
ReplyDeleteWe have our school fete this Saturday. I can't wait it's usually a massive event and a really fun day. Bad luck on the tombola, better luck next time x
ReplyDeleteI love the look of those plate smashing fete games but also want to run over and rescue all the pretty pieces! I cant wait for D to start full time school in sept, looking forward to school fetes!
ReplyDeleteI bought loads this week from the carboot and auction, for only £6.00! Thanks for the link up! (Love the new blog look btw)
