If you've been paying close attention you will know that I love a bit of foraging - not just in charity shops, but actual foraging of food, in the great outdoors.
I've just started another blog which I'd love for you to follow too. It's early days, but spring is a-coming so expect lots of lovely recipes over the coming months.
This week's finds were all forage related. I found this beautiful autumnal hinged biscuit tin, with a display of hedgerow fruits and berries.
I may use it to keep my recipes, magazine cuttings and note in.
Just a word of warning about cleaning old tins. I've been caught out before with over zealous cleaning of these in the past and ended up rubbing the design off. For these, Cilit Bang is not your friend. It required gentle rubbing with a soft sponge and washing up liquid. Keep the scourers away, and make sure you dry it immediately to prevent rusting.
I spotted this metal jam funnel for £1. No more burnt fingers from hot as hell jams and chutneys!!
And I got 5 metal baking trays for a snip which will be just right for open freezing berries and for making flapjacks with foraged nuts and traybakes.
I can't wait to get cracking!

Nice finds, love it when you come across things that are pertinent to something you have on the horizon. Your jam funnel's pipe looks a little on the slim side, does it detach? x

DeleteI will go and look at the new blog, I love idea of foraging but not really sure what to pick apart from blackberries! Nice useful finds too. Mine aren't thrifted this week but are courtesy of my magpie mum!

ReplyDeleteIm a fan of tins too! I scrub mine using washing up liquid and a gentle scourer and so far so good! This week i only managed to buy books and earrings, but Spring time is coming and the carboots will get going! Whoop! xx

ReplyDeleteTypist othr half is very into auctions, he wants to find some stuff to clean up and hopefully sell on for a bit of a profit - he isn't a natural, as he missed out on a clock, bought for £30 sold for £300 and something else that I can't remember the details of now! However he did buy a box of brass with the hope it would sell on, the only problem is that typist really loves most of what he has bought and keeps trying to find room for it in the house! BOL
