A few of you asked to see the pretty china, so I'm going to show you it today, and show you what we've done with it.
We've come up with a pretty nifty and thrifty Christmas gift idea.
There were a total of 10 trios, and 2 spare tea plates and 2 spare saucers, so that's enough to make up 10 gift sets and 2 cake stands!!
I purchase some lovely teaspoons from Glenda at Cutlery and Catering which work out at a very reasonable £1 each (plus postage). Yes, you could source second hand teaspoons, but trying to find attractive ones in bulk in a charity shop is no easy task!
I dipped each teaspoon in melted 70% dark chocolate, allowed to set and then dipped again to ensure there was adequate chocolate to make a deliciously smooth cup of hot chocolate.
I did try making them in shaped silicone moulds/ice cube trays, but despite trying 2 different methods of tempering the chocolate, I couldn't prevent the chocolate from going bloomy inside the mould. Dipping them was much easier, even taking into account suspending them up to set!
We added a handful of mini pink and white marshmallows, and tied them and the spoon up in cellophane.
Pop the chocolate spoon inside the teacup, finish with a pretty matching ribbon, and there you have a gorgeous vintage tea trio with a hot chocolate spoon.
To use, simply swirl the spoon in hot milk for a few minutes until melted, sprinkle your marshmallows on top and enjoy!
