Magpie Monday - New Shoes

I seem to have lucked out recently in charity shops and found some really gorgeous items of clothing and pairs of shoes.

All to often, I buy frivolous or impractical things from charity shops, so it's really nice to have found a couple of outfits for myself and Ruby which are really lovely and will be worn loads.

My favourites of the past fortnight are this super flattering vintage wool skirt (£6) and a pair of brand new Marks & Spencer patent heeled brogues (£3).

I've already worn the shoes on a night out, and wore the skirt and shoes together last week at a blogger event at Handmade London.  Even though my feet were killing me by the end of the day, it's amazing how different you feel in heels and a skirt after living in jeans and flat boots.

For Ruby I spotted this needlecord tiered skirt by Autograph at M&S for £1.50 and only this morning picked up this adorable pair of unworn leather Mary Janes also from M&S for £2.20.

I love the little leather applique detail and the punched hole design.

It seems to me that charity shop prices are finally coming down.  What do you think?  Have you noticed more sensible pricing recently?

  3. Those little lilac shoes are really gorgeous - I wish they made shoes like that in grown-up sizes! Both skirts and your heeled shoes are lovely too.

I don't know whether prices are coming down, I think it depends on the style of charity shop. I prefer to donate to places that will sell for a good price, rather than shops that underprice. But I have left items unbought in charity shops sometimes if the price has been too high.

  4. The skirt is so lovely, I bet you'll get lots of wear out of it. I rarely find clothes too Karen.
I also love the shoes, very sweet and a lovely colour.
I struggle with heels, I have such huge plates of meat!

  10. I managed to get myself sorted to join in this week.I think it depends on the shop on prices.Oxfam and Red Cross are cheaper compared to RSPCA and Blue Cross I guess because the latter are animal charities.I bet Ruby loves her new shoes and you must of found it hard to keep a straight face when you bought them.

  12. You have an eye for style and I love the shoes in particular, both pairs.
Charity shops need to pitch prices carefully. Fine if you have a marketing dept not so easy if you just have one or two shops.
    Will link up later

  14. Ooh I like that checked skirt and the fact that it's vintage is even sweeter!

I can see Ruby in her outfit too. I always fall upon M&S in charity shops because I think you're still assurred of quality. £2 for those beautiful shoes, you can't go wrong!!

  16. Love your skirt, and Ruby's shoes are so cute. Prices are still high in the town centre, but lower in the 'poorer' areas so I shop in those.I usually pick up clothes from my favourite carboot stall. She only sells clothes which are pristine and everything is freshly laundered and pressed. I got a lovely Next cotton cardi for me yesterday for £1, and a few weeks ago I got a cashmere blend M & S jumper for hubby, also for £1.

  17. Those shoes are really cute!

The charity shops around here are really mixed. Some have total bargain prices and some still charge far too much, sometimes more than the item was in the first place (I'm talking Primark clothes, not antiques!).

  18. I like the girls shoes too they are very cute.

Some of the clothes in the local charity shops are pricey, but occasionally a bargain can be found.

Personally, I'm looking forward to the car boot season again as lots of childrens clothes can be picked up fairly cheaply at those.

  24. Wow, such bargains! I have definitely not noticed a drop in charity shop prices, they just seem to be getting higher and higher around here. I remember i used to get things for £3 at the most, just 3 or 4 years ago, and now prices are generally more like £6 to £8 for clothes and shoes. Charity shops are getting less stock though and have to compete with low cost high street shops so i understand why, but it still doesn't feel right to charge such high prices.
This week i managed to spend just £5.50 on 6 books, i can always find cheap books!
