All aboard the Dinosaur Train

Having been brought up on The Muppets and Fraggle Rock, I'm so pleased that Jim Henson's creations are still reaching new audiences.

Happily for us, Nick Jr is now showing the Dinosaur Train - a wonderful series for pre-schoolers and early years  which not only has the whimsical character's you'd expect from the Jim Henson company, but teaches children critical thinking skills which will prepare them for school lessons.

With expert input from paleontologists, scientists and early years educators, in each episode we see Buddy the central character, thinking up a hypothesis and setting out to find evidence to prove or disprove his theory.

Ruby is a big fan of both trains and dinosaurs, so I expected this to be a hit.  I didn't quite expect the way she was totally mesmerised by it though.  Each episode is 22 minutes long, and she'll watch an episode intently then explode with questions for me afterwards.

It's a fantastic series to develop their interest in the natural world and spark an early passion for science.

Catch the Dinosaur Train on Nick Jr at 4pm.

Disclosure: This review is part of my role as official blogger for Nick Jr.  We received a sample DVD and a goody bag.  All opinions are my own.
