Sew Ethical

Last week, whilst mooching around my favourite charity shops, I noticed that Oxfam already had some of their Christmas collection on sale.

I spotted this lovely little sew-on patch. It's fairly traded from India, and for £3.49 I thought it would be a cute little project for me to applique on to a plain t-shirt for Ruby.

Notwithstanding my sewing machine needing a little tinker, and then my iron conked out, it only took about 10 minutes to come up with a unique design top for her.  Simply machine stitched with zig zag stitching.

Yes, I know its not perfect - to be honest the shape was a bit fiddly for a beginner like me, but it shows it's handcrafted right?

Perhaps I should have started with this humming bird patch instead?

I'm planning on getting these cute pirate patches to embellish some plain items for my nephew for Christmas.

I also am quite taken with this book of iron-on transfers (when I get round to buying a new iron that is!).  I think this might appear on my Christmas wish list.

They also have gorgeous fair trade wool and accessories for knitters, like this lush knitting bag.

If you're looking for some craft with a conscience  Christmas pressies, check out the Oxfam Ethical Collection, either in store or online.

Linking up with Handmade Thursday.

NB This is NOT a sponsored post. I was not asked to promote Oxfam's range, but do so of my own free will.  Go take a look!

  4. Love the pirate patches. We have a campfire blanket for Bud and I am always on the lookout for different patches to sew onto it.
