It's 10-to-school-run time. I have already spent half and hour
And so it begins...The histrionics from hair brushing are worthy of an Oscar each morning - or at least loud enough to alert Social Services. We finally leave the house late for nursery, red-faced, angry and sweaty - that's both of us. Again.
Sound familiar?
Seriously, I have no idea what she does at night to wake up with matted dreadlocks. I've tried plaiting it at night, but apparently it's uncomfortable and she can't lie on it. We've tried so many different products and sprays but my daughter can find a fatal flaw in each and every one of them: smells funny/don't like the colour of the bottle/makes her cough/doesn't work/doesn't like the picture on the label...Jeez!
Finally, we may have hit upon the solution. DGJ Organics kids range seems to tick all the boxes for her, and from my point of view is great because they use certified organic ingredients and no harmful parabens or SLS.
The Wild n' Crazy Watermelon Shampoo is my favourite - it smells delicious and has a detangling effect. This makes life so so much easier. For days when we're not washing her hair, we use a spritz of the Watermelon Detangling spray to lessen the screams.
The DGJ Organics Wild 'n' Crazy hair range is available from Waitrose but I have a set of 3 products to give away. The lucky winner will get the 2 products shown above, plus the delicious smelling banana and berry shampoo.
To enter the competition, simply leave me a comment on how you make hair washing/bathtime less stressful and more fun. One lucky winner will be picked at random.
For an extra entry, please tweet the following: I'm entering @missielizzieb's blog competition to win the Wild 'n' Crazy kid's hair range from @dgjorganics here: http://bit.ly/LpNDox.
Make sure you leave a separate comment saying you have tweeted. Please also remember to leave a way to contact you - email address or Twitter name.
Closing date is 12:00 Monday 21 May 2012. Open to UK only.
Disclosure: The prize will be fulfilled by DGJ Organics. I was sent a set of products free of charge for the purposes of this review. Any opinion expressed is my own.

ReplyDeleteWe use grown ups conditioner on our 9 year old she feels special , grown up and also works better than kiddy stuff. If she's in a real mood I make my jelly belly into a mouth and tell her to do things. She thinks I'm crazy, laughs and forgets about being in a strop.

ReplyDeleteThank you for the lovely review and giveaway! My children love the bath - the two boys go in together and the two girls go in together! And although the two girls spend longer in it, playing with their tea pots, dolls etc, the boys seems to make the most puddles on the floor!
ReplyDeleteHair washing has been so much easier since I bought some Alibaba hair washing caps for the girls and swimming goggles for the boys!!! They really help prevent shampoo getting in their eyes, though the caps look hilarious lol! I use a Peppa Pig watering can for rinsing too! (The boys cringe but I keep saying to them 'Now who is going to know you get your hair washed with a pink watering can!')
I am following both on Twitter and have tweeted too! @tracyknixon xxx
ReplyDeletelots of bubbles and i wash their hair first so then they can play!
ReplyDelete@ashlallan
lots of bubbles, always a favourite distraction if required and great fun to play with
ReplyDeleteI make sure Samuel has plenty of bath toys to play with. I make his hair go spikey once the shampoo is on, which makes him laugh. Getting a shampoo that smells nice too is good.

ReplyDeleteBathtime is fun no matter what- my girls love playing bathtub tea parties. But to get them to wash their hair, we have to play mermaids.....they 'swim' under thw ater to get hair wet and rinse etc. Mermaids have scrupulously clean hair you see.
ReplyDeleteBubbles are fabby in the bath and it's great to play blowing bubbles too. Like to make shapes with hair when it is full of shampoo creating spikes etc.

ReplyDeleteAt bath time hair washing to get my girls to get their hair wet, they get to "mermaid", in fact they are just lying on their backs in the bath. Then a spot of crazy hair styles when shampoo is in.

ReplyDeleteGive the kids an empty shampoo bottle to play with whilst washing their hair, always keeps them distracted filling it up and splashing with it - cheap too :) @haylselvin
ReplyDeleteHair washing was always lathering up loads of shampoo and making punk or pixie styles out of the lather and letting my son have a mirror to look at himself...always accompanied by a blob of white shampoo on his nose for good measure! We also had some great bath toys. I don't remember ever having problems with bathtime apart from when he became a teenager and was hard to get him in the bath haha! Now he has his own kids to deal with!!! @WrightyH

ReplyDeleteLuckily my daughter doesn't mind having her washed or brushed, an odd grumble now and then, but I would love to try this product, her hair is like a frizz bomb and she will probably be begging me for straighteners when she's a teenager.
ReplyDeletei just give them a facecloth folded to place over their eyes to rinse their hair and its enough to keep them happy :)
ReplyDeletemy son loves having a bath and washing his hair. he loves all the water on his face.
ReplyDeleteLily Mai, loves hair washtime, we make a game of it, and let her do bits herself
ReplyDeleteFoam Letters to make words on the side of the bath
ReplyDeleteI have loads of toys in the bath, some of them light up. I also always keep a pot of bubbles as my little girl loves them. Bath times are the best times in my house.

ReplyDeleteI wash my daughter's hair in the bath (which she hates) but whilst she has the shampoo still on, I give her a little mirror and let her play "hairstyles". She loves making different hairstyles - mohican is her favourite!

ReplyDeleteI have a friend who admitted to resorting to Batiste dry shampoo when she wasn't up to the hair washing tantrum. Everyone has their Slummy Mummy moments!
ReplyDeleteMy little one loves the bath but to make it more fun we bought some bath crayons which keep her happy drawing on the bath and they are easy to wash off.
ReplyDeleteWe use the plastic ring thingy to keep water out of my toddlers eyes when washing hair.
ReplyDeleteWIth lots of songs and distractions!

ReplyDeleteWe always have a tea party in the bath, and pretend to drink the bath water then pretend to spit it out, shouting 'Oh that's disgusting' and the like, this gets Grace in a good mood for the hair washing which is not her favourite thing in life at the moment.

ReplyDeletewith our older daughter (6 years) we have got it all sown up with her now and hair washing. she wears her swimming goggles and its now a tear free experience. Our younger daughter (14 months) isnt such an easy case, we just use the jug of water and try and get it over with as soon as possible. she doesnt crym, but trys to climb out of the bath, so we all end up wet.

ReplyDeletemy daughters hair is like a curly mop ,i could do with these hair products maybe it would save a hell of a lot of stress at bath time x
ReplyDeletei put lots of toys to play with in the bath, hair products would be fab for kaiden hair as he has a slight afro, at first he was frightened of the water over his head but i think once you teach them by doing your own hair he gets used to its sometimes i get him to wash my hair, i think if you panic to much makes your kid worse xx
ReplyDeleteSo glad its not just us! We do bubble hats in the bath, at her hair is less tangly when just washed, but she hates having it shampooed too. I recently discovered that shes better at having her hair brushed if I chase her round the house growling like a bear and brushing as we run. It's odd morning routine... but whatever it takes ;)
ReplyDeleteI have a waterproof MP3 player which I've loaded with silly, easy to sing-along-to songs - it's a great bathtime distraction and our impromptu bathtime singalongs constitute quality family 'silly time', which I think every family needs!

ReplyDeleteSo I can't hear the screams from the bathroom as my poor hubby gets run ragged, as I sit on the sofa with my mug of coffee ;), I'd love to try these products. My wee girl has really thick long hair, and my 6 year old son has a mass of long curly hair - brush time is not fun for us!

ReplyDeleteI do it as little as possible and make it sound like a special treat!
ReplyDeleteMy little girl has very long, very thick, extremely curly hair and she absolutely hates having her hair washed as it gets very knotty and tangly. We usually have a tantrum or two in the build-up to washing it! I hate washing hair in the bath as I don't like the fact that her hair will be filled with bubble-bath etc, so we wash her hair in the shower! She quite enjoys this as she can sit down, and we use a little 'eye protector' type thing which goes around her head and stops all the water and shampoo falling into her eyes. We can then angle the water and shampoo so it falls down her back. We also find distracting her when it's time to comb it out works wonders! This can be by someone reading to her, allowing her to watch something on tv or her big brother or sister telling her jokes!
ReplyDeleteI have tweeted as @solarsangel
ReplyDeleteI let Harvey wet his hair and then I let him help me to rub the shampoo/conditioner in :) I rinse though to make sure it doesn't get in his eyes and to make sure all the soap is out :D

ReplyDeleteI use toys as a distraction in the bath, I also try to use fun and kid friendly products, to be fair who likes shampoo in the eye? Not me - so I try to use a shampoo that isn't going to sting so much if it trickles around the eye area. I also use a foamy green soap, bubbles, fun shaped soaps and sponges etc anything that is fun, looks good or smells fun (Banana and Bubblegum are favourites in our home) is just making bathtimes less stressful. @hlac1
